FORT JEFFERSON
Dry Tortugas National Park
Originally constructed to protect the important Gulf of Mexico shipping lanes, Fort Jefferson was used as a military prison during the Civil War. During this time, it was "home" to Dr. Samuel Mudd, who was convicted of complicity in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. Construction continued for over 30 years but the Fort, which covers 11 of the Florida Key's 16 acres, was never finished. In 1935 Fort Jefferson was proclaimed a National Monument.
When The National Park Service decided to restore this treasure, BBP, LLC was pleased to be chosen to assist in this restoration, by building structures to establish a base camp for the craftsmen. This camp consists of 5 units used as Living Quarters, 1 unit used as a Kitchen, 1 unit as a Bathhouse, 1 as Recreation/Dining Hall and 1 as a Central Power Control Building. Since the Base Camp had to be self contained, energy efficient structures were a must. This , along with quick and easy setup and take down in case of hurricane, lead the General Contractor to choose BBP, LLC to provide the structures required.
"All too often you have heard me complain about unscrupulous contractors and supplies. Every now and then there is an exception. W.A. Brown & Son, supplies of our rapid deployment shelters, is exceptional. Neil Wilkinson, their structural product manager showed up in DT to instruct us (for one hour) in the erection of their RD shelters only to find us three days behind schedule setting up our awning system. He worked from 6:30 AM until 7:00 PM for three days. Neil's company also constructs very attractive RDS for camp sites that look just like miniature cabins complete with AC and front porch. If you ever have need of their cabins they are an outstanding company with an exceptional product and exceptional service."
